How many fuel bowsers can I connect to one Smart-Fill ?
Smart-Fill basically comes in 2 versions...

Version 9s - Which is for single systems with a maximum of 998 vehicles and 1500 user pin numbers. A maxiumum of 500 fuel issues in memory if you use a memory key, or 1500 if you download via mobile phone network or cable etc. When you only have one fuel bowser to manage, then Version 9s is for you.

Version 9m - Which is for multiple systems of up to 8 bowsers managed by the Smart-Fill unit. A maximum of 1000 vehicles and 1500 user pin numbers, plus 1500 fuel issues in memory. Version 9m is ideal for service vehicles for lube dispensing etc.

What information will the Smart-Fill give us about our fuel use ?
The Smart-Fill gives you your fuel use information in 2 ways.
1- FUEL USE TOTALS.     Smart-Fill gives you the total amount of fuel taken by each vehicle since the totals were last reset to zero (memory cleared). This is a cumulative total.

2- PAST FUEL ISSUES.    Smart-Fill gives you a list of the past 1500 individual fuel issues, with...

Vehicle number
Vehicle Description
Vehicle registration number
Vehicle Fleet code.
Name of the person who dispensed the fuel (if you have the PIN number system turned on)
Litres taken
Time and date of fuel issue
Speedo / hourmeter reading at the time of issue.

3- MAINTENANCE STATUS. Smart-Fill gives you a report showing the current service status of each vehicle. It will tell you how many kilometres until each service is due, plus alert you about overdue or due soon services.

How do I know that it's reliable ?
The Smart-Fill system is in use in over 1000 locations throughout the world.
Smart-Fill has time proven itself in all types of weather conditions.

What limitations does it have that we should know about ?
The only limits to concern the user are:
    - Maximum capacity of 998 vehicles.
    - Maximum capacity of 1500 pin numbers (1500 users).
    - Past 1500 fuel issues stored in memory. A warning system alerts the user when the memory is 80% full. Note that the limit is 500 fuel issues if you use a memory key to download the data.

How do I get the fuel totals / information from my Smart-Fill ?
This is one of the best features of a Smart-Fill system.
You can download using a special memory key system, which is simply a key ring type data storage device. See the software page for more details.

You can also download to your office pc via the mobile phone network if the Smart-Fill unit is located in an area covered by the gsm (digital) or CDMA network. See the Software page for details.

A direct link via data cable is also available.

Can I control which keys will work on the system, and which keys won't?
Yes, you have a master key for adding new vehicle keys and deleting them from the system. You can have up to 998 keys loaded into each Smart-Fill system.
None of the keys work when you install a new  Smart-Fill system, the manager of the system must enable the keys before they will operate the system.

Can I control who can use the system?
Yes, you can have the system ask each user for a pin number (which you, the manager can change at any time) before the Smart-Fill will allow the bowser to start.  This pin number also identifies which person took the fuel, and shows you in the data spreadsheet.

Who can install the Smart-Fill  to my bowser ?
An ever growing list of preferred suppliers / installers in Australia and overseas is listed on the Suppliers page. Although the Smart-Fill is simple enough to be installed by any competent, licensed electrician.

What about service information, will we be stuck without "secret pin numbers" or other means of limiting service of the unit.
There are no special codes, keys or pin numbers etc required to service the unit. The installing electrician can even do the calibration settings.

Can I use it for trade purposes, to sell fuel to my clients, or to sell fuel to subcontractors, or to calculate my diesel rebate etc ?

Smart-Fill version 10 is NMI approved for use in trade situations. (26/02/2007).
Note that for the system to be approved, the complete dispensing system (bowser / meter etc) needs to be NMI approved for trade use, not just the Smart-Fill part of it. Contact your Smart-Fill supplier for further details.

Australian law states (in a lot more words) that if you wish to use a measuring instrument to calculate or measure in any trade transaction, then the measuring equipment must be approved by the National Measurement Institute. This applies to the actual fuel bowser as well as any recording device. Claiming of a tax rebate is classed as "Trade Use".

Smart-Fill systems are also available for non trade use, where the application allows this.

If you wish to seek further information on this, please contact you local State Trade Measurement Authority.

What if the power goes off ?
The Smart-Fill is not affected in a power outage. The fuel data is stored in Eeprom memory, (which means that it requires no battery backup to keep the totals). In fact the totals are kept for around 25 years with no power. The same applies to all of the system settings, calibration values etc, they are in Eeprom as well. The date and time settings are backed up by a component that acts like a battery, but never needs replacing. It will keep the date and time settings for around 15 days without power.

How secure are the keys ?
Smart-Fill vehicle keys are very secure. No two ibutton type keys made are the same.

What type of fuel systems can it be installed to ?
The Smart-Fill can be installed to just about any mechanical or electronic type of fuel bowser or fuel meter. It can be installed to bulk flow meters as well as basically any rotating or pulsing output. We can customise interface systems to suit just about any application. The systems may be installed to fuel delivery / service trucks to monitor fuel / oil use, and may be linked to a hydraulic or air system. The systems will operate on 110v or 240v ac, or 12 / 24 v dc power supplies (specify on order). Gas dispensers are able to be automated as well.
The systems have been fitted to the following pumps...
Compac, Gilbarco Fleetline, Gilbarco Trimline, PEC FleetPEC, TT, Wayne Pacesetter, Wayne 605, single and dual. Wayne 605 mini, Email high flow, Gilbarco Electroline, LC M10 bulk flowmeter, Tokheim (Daniel) bulk flowmeter, Neptune bulk flowmeter, Smith T11, MacNaught pulse meter, Trimec / Flomec Pulse meter.

What if an access key gets lost or stolen ?
The manager can disable any stolen or lost keys by using the 'MENU' key. This prevents the disabled key from accessinging the SmartFill. If you find the key again, you can load it into the system again, or you can keep it as a spare.

What type of warranty cover applies ?
Smart-Fill is covered by 12 months warranty on repair labour at our premises (the manufacturer), and 6 months warranty on parts. Damage caused in transit, or by faulty installation, accidental damage is not covered. Warranty is at the manufacturers premises, freight is at senders cost. You may be able to negotiate an on-site warranty with your supplier.

What if the Smart-Fill was to fail, how would I get fuel ?
Most Smart-Fill units have an over-ride switch mounted inside the locked enclosure. In the event of a system failure, the owner can unlock the cabinet, and bypass the Smart-Fill with this switch until the fault is rectified.
NMI approved systems do not have a bypass switch fitted, due to them controlling the system via communications, and as such they cannot simply 'bypass' the dispenser.
